(More customer reviews)It looked sturdy in the picture but was really made out of material a little thicker than tin foil. Also, a piece was missing that holds a wheel on. It was easy to assemble as long as you don't accidentally bend the metal pieces out of shape. One of our older kids was carrying it and accidentally dropped it in the gravel and it fell apart. We don't have a lot of money either, but my recommendation is to save the money up to buy a better bike.

Our cartoon collection weighs 255g and fits heads between 49-55cm, it's a smaller helmet than the speedy but larger than the kid. The junior bike helmet features: 9 ventilation openings, reflecting stickers, Bee Stop: Molded-in mesh in the large, forward vents that prevents bugs from impacting the scalp through the large ventilation openings, Individual Adapting System (IAS): With its ratcheting closure mechanism, and pivot points, the UVEX IAS 2-system provides a unique, three-dimensional, and micro-adjustable fit. The integrated strap system guide guarantees a good and tight fit. The IAS knob can be operated with one hand, while the helmet is on. The system also features a ventilated forehead with anti-allergic, washable cushion.Inmold Technology: Where other helmets have their protective foam glued into the hard outer shell, in our inmold process, the foam is injected into a mold that is "lined" with the Makrolon outer shell. (More customer reviews)My 3 year old son loves this helmet and pads set. It fits him well and is adjustable as he grows. The only issue that we have with it is that the adhesive on the pads inside extends to the sides, so his hair always got stuck to it and pulled when he took it off. We did end up replacing the pads with some we purchased from a local bike store. He thinks the surfer dog is funny and it's never an issue getting him to put it on when he wants to go skating. The elbow and knee pads are not as well made as the helmet and only the circle with the picture on it really offers any protection. Still, I haven't found a better set yet that he'll actually wear and I don't figure that he'll be all that aggressive with his gear just yet anyway. For a three year old, it serves its purpose well.
